Abstract

Background: Every dentist should be able to answer the patient questions regarding crown and bridge success and failure. Because they are custom made and are prone to failure. Every dentist should have knowledge about their failure and its severity. This will help them in correct diagnosis and treatment planning. So properly executed fixed dental prosthesis will provide better function, esthetic and patient satisfaction. If fixed dental prosthesis is planned poorly, it will not only damage tooth but also damage prosthesis.
Objective: To find location based failures of different arch in non-maintained metal ceramic FDPs presented by patients reporting to Khyber College of Dentistry, Peshawar at the time period of six months. Study design was Descriptive, cross-sectional.
Materials and Methods: In this cross sectional observation study 216 patients were clinically evaluated for failure of fixed partial denture in both arches. Bridges were examined through inspection, palpation, percussion, radiographic examination and probing depth. The failed bridges were put into different grades of failure. Data was analyzed by using SPSS version 23.
Results: Majority of failures belong to group 1 to 4(almost 25%), while in group 5 and 6 the frequency was less than other groups. The studies include 58 % female and rests were male.
Conclusion: Our study showed that more than two thirds of the observed fixed partial dentures were having almost an equal proportion of failure ranging from grade 1-4.
